Historic Facts of Karyes (Arahova) Community

In 1914, with the law "About Municipalities and Communities", Karyes became a Community under the title of "Koinotis Arahovis" (means Community of Arahova) and in 1930 it was renamed as Koinotita Karyon Lakedaimonos (means Community of Karyes in Lakedaimon). The Community remained administrative independent even after the enforcement of the administrative division plan "Kapodistrias" in 1997 (Ν.2539/97). In 2010 the limits of self-government units were redefined with the program Kallikratis (Ν.3852/2010), then the Community of Karyes was abolished and its administration was given to the municipality of Sparti.

  • 1836 - The settlement is named as the base of Karyes Municipality (FEK 80A - 12.28.1836).
  • 1840 - The settlement is detached from the Karyes Municipality and it is attached to Oinountos Municipality (12.09.1840).
  • 1899 - The settlement is detached from Lakonias Prefecture and it belongs to Lakedaimonos Prefecture (FEK 136A - 07.08.1899).
Arachova of Lakedaimonos Prefecture
  • 1909 - The settlement is detached from Lakedaimonos Prefecture and it belongs to Lakonias Prefecture (FEK 282A - 04/12/1909).
Arachova of Lakonias Prefecture
  • 1912 - The settlement is detached from Oinountos Municipality and it is named as the base of Arachova Municipality (FEK 261A - 08.31.1912)
  • 1930 -The settlement is renamed to Karyai Community (FEK 251A - 07.24.1930)

  • 1997 - The Community stays administrative indepedent under "Kapodistrias" Administrative Division (FEK A244-12.04.1997)
  • 2010 - The settlement is detached from Karyes Community and it belongs to Sparta Municipality (FEK 87A - 06.07.2010)
